Ana lost and was eliminated from the Australian Open.
Today in Rod Laver Arena Ana lost to world #2 Petra Kvitova 6-2 7-6 in 1 hour and 25 minutes. Ana hit 14 winners to 27 unforced errors and 4 aces to 7 double faults. She converted one of her four break point chances.
In the first set, Ana began erratically and quickly fell behind by 3-1 and 4-2. In the seventh game, Kvitova broke Ana's serve and comfortably led 5-2, and then she served out the set 6-2.
In the second set, Ana had started well by holding serve at 15, but Kvitova saved two break points on her serve in the next game to hold. Then Ana quickly lost her serve and fell behind 3-1 in the score. Much later, Ana was trailing 5-3, but she held serve before Kvitova had the chance to serve out the match. In that game, Ana responded and broke back at love to stay alive in the encounter. In the following game, Ana held at love and led 6-5, but afterwards Kvitova held serve easily to force a tiebreak. Ana played very poorly in the tiebreak with three unforced errors and two double faults, while Kvitova took advantage. Ana lost the tiebreak 7-2, so Kvitova won the set and the match 6-2 7-6.
The next tournament for Ana is Doha, which starts on February 13 and ends on February 19. Last year, Ana could not play there because of an abdominal muscle injury.
